Passport Pages - Fiji
Aug 02, 2021If you’re in search of a tropical paradise, Fiji is definitely one of your best bets. From beautiful beaches, water sports, hikes and tours, to the phenomenal Fijian cuisine, you’ll definitely want to travel here!
Yasawa Islands
Located in the northwest side of the country and with over 20 volcanic islands, you’ll find tons of different adventures and attractions here! There are many hiking trails, and a variety of affordable accommodation options.
We recommend signing up for swimming with the manta rays! This is a seasonal attraction and only available from May-October, but well worth the additional scheduling.
Saw-i-Lau Caves
Explore these scenic limestone caves that are only accessible by boat. The caves are carved by constant wave action, and have stories of their own to tell. The first cave is lit through natural holes in the ceilings so you can be amazed by the beauty of the cave. The second cave is open for more adventurous tourists, and is accessible through an underwater tunnel.
Fijian Cuisine
Fijian food is typically ‘healthy comfort food’ that has been passed down by generations. Staples of the cuisine include coconuts, seafood, cassava, breadfruit, and more.
Some popular dishes you must try are:
- A traditional Fijian feast, known as a lovo. It's prepared underground in a homemade oven.
- Kokoda is a marinated citrus raw fish that is served with coconut milk, tomatoes and spices.
- Palusami, which is assembled using rourou or taro leaves and stuffed with meat and a coconut mixture.
- And coconut bread; a delicious staple of the Fijian diet made from, well, coconuts! Coconut trees in Fiji are known as the “tree of life”.
Taveuni
The third largest island, Taveuni, is a tropical paradise full of flowers and thick vegetation. Be sure to explore the Tavoro Waterfalls, the Bouma National Heritage Park, and the Lavena Coastal Walk. All are great attractions if you’re seeking gorgeous photos and to experience the beautiful scenery surrounding the “Garden Island of Fiji”.
Liku Beach
Liku beach spans 3,000 feet! It’s a sand beach with a lagoon and coral reefs. The middle of the beach is where you’ll find a seemingly endless staircase that leads up to the adults only Tokoriki Island Resort.
